Am I being Tracked?
Learn how to know if your being tracked.
It is incredibly violating to feel like someone is tracking your movements or conversations without your permission. But how do you tell whether your fears are unfounded or if someone really is tracking you?
Signs You’re Being Tracked
- Before you start feeling paranoid, first ask yourself: does anyone have a reason to track me?
- Stay aware of your surroundings at all times. If you suspect you’re being followed slow down. If you’re driving this means moving to the right lane and dropping below the speed limit. If you’re on foot, stop to look at window displays. Is someone keeping pace with you?
- Is your phone acting oddly? Does it beep or light up when you’re not using it? Is the battery draining exceptionally quickly? Are you receiving strange, garbled text messages? Is your phone bill reflecting data usage you can’t account for? There might be spyware installed on your phone, if so.
- Is someone tracking your computer use? You can check for key loggers by looking for unfamiliar programs running in the Task Manager on Windows or the Activity Monitor on a Mac. You can install email trackers like ReadNotify to track if your emails are being intercepted.
If you suspect you’re being tracked, there are other ways you might be surveilled as well, like electronic bug monitoring or GPS tracking.
How Does GPS Tracking Work?
GPS is a worldwide radio-navigation system compiled from information received from 24 satellites to triangulate an exact location. This information streamed from above Earth allows a GPS receiver to calculate location with extreme accuracy within 5 to 15 feet.
Prices continue to drop for technological inventions and GPS tracking is just another example. Physically trailing a person is a time consuming, expensive operation, but with the development of GPS technology, tracking a person’s location can be done remotely for a fraction of the cost. GPS trackers can report back a lot highly specific information including routes taken, stops made, and even how long a subject was in a specific location.
